USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
24-36" tall x 18" wide. A strong bloomer, Total Recall Reblooming Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) greets the day in shades of pure white flushed and edged with lemon. Blooming first in mid-spring, it will rebloom again from summer to fall. The delicate flowers stand tall at 24-36" tall on sturdy stems. Consider planting them where they can accompany the flowers of spring, summer, and fall. Allium, Larkspur (Delphinium), Hummingbird Mint (Agastache), Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia), even sunflowers all make good companions. Deer and rabbit resistant, they are pollinated by bumblebees and are important for a pollinator-friendly garden. Plant them in a grouping of at least three for best effect, or in the back of a border where they can shine against an evergreen background. Plant Total Recall rhizomes (bulbs) in soil with good drainage and a full sun to part-shade location. Keep the top of the rhizome even with the soil. Water them well, but don't overwater as they don't like wet feet (it's the only thing they're really fussy about). Provide adequate moisture until all blooming is done for the season. After blooming, Bearded Iris are water-thrifty garden troopers that will continue to add garden interest with their beautiful green vertical foliage.
