4-6" tall x 12-18" wide. ‘Candy Stripe’ welcomes spring with a playful displays of rose-pink petals each striped white along the margins. The vibrant blooms attract butterflies to the garden and make great companions to spring bulbs. Native to dry, rocky slopes and open woodlands in the eastern states, creeping phlox looks right at home along the sunny edge of a shade garden or scrambling over rocks. ‘Candy Stripe’ tolerates a wide range of soil types provided they have good drainage. Plants flower best in full sun, but benefit from afternoon shade in hot southern states. The dense mat of evergreen foliage resembles moss, lending the plant one of its common names of moss phlox. Encourage dense vegetative growth by cutting plants back up to one-half following the spring bloom. A low maintenance and waterwise groundcover.
Creeping Phlox is a favorite perennial groundcover in all growing regions. Cold hardy and heat tolerant, it creates a colorful carpet of low-growing, cheerful blooms that appear each spring atop a deep green mat of evergreen foliage. A rapid spreader, Creeping Phlox is masterful at filling spaces in between trees, rolling down gentle slopes or steep banks, and covering areas that are hard to care for with its solid swath of color. Very dependable and tolerant of many soil types. Deer resistant.
