USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

(22-36" tall x 18-36" wide) Our Curb Appeal Deer Resistant Plant Collection offers a low maintenance, high impact solution when it’s time for a home garden refresh! Blue Jean Baby Russian Sage (PP29281) is a compact, pollinator friendly plant with soft lavender-blue spires that bloom from mid-summer to fall; its silvery-green foliage adds a lovely fragrance and deters browsing deer and rabbits. American Goldrush Black-Eyed Susan (PP28498) complements the Russian Sage with rich golden flowers that attract pollinators and birds to its textured seed cones; this compact variety has a neat growth habit and long-lasting blooms from mid-summer through fall. Hameln Fountain Grass adds a graceful, arching structure to the collection, and shifts from green to golden-rust colored foliage in fall. Plant this collection in a full sun location in average soil with good drainage. This low maintenance collection will add deer-resistant color to your plant palette.

Our Curb Appeal Deer Resistant Collection is roughly 5' x 5' if planted together and contains 3 plants:

Blue Jean Baby Russian Sage - 1 plant

American Gold Rush Black Eyed Susan - 1 plant

Hameln Fountain Grass - 1 plant

*Not all plants will be in bloom at the same time, as depicted on the illustration. Plants are subject to change due to availability. If we make substitutions, we feature plants with similar attributes suitable to the garden/collection design.
