‘Sherwood Purple’ is the perfect native Phlox for a woodland or shaded area. Its evergreen foliage carpets the ground all year, then, in May, sends up flower spikes on 8-inch stems with fragrant violet-purple flowers that wave above the spring garden. A perfect companion for other woodland bulbs, it is also prized by native pollinators. (Phlox stolonifera ‘Sherwood Purple’)
Grow Bluebeard ‘Snow Fairy’ for its outstanding variegated gray-green and white foliage. Unlike other variegated plants, this foliage of this perennial—that behaves like a small shrub—does not scorch in hot summer sun. Small blue flowers cover the plants in late summer, but the foliage is the main attraction. It absolutely lights up the garden! (Caryopteris divaricata)
Bluebeard, sometimes called “Blue Mist Shrub” for its clouds of blue flowers borne along upright stems, is a late summer showstopper. Butterflies love drinking from the blooms. ‘Longwood Blue’ is a taller selection that flowers later than other types, giving you color deep into the season. Striking when mass-planted. (Caryopteris x clandonensis)
