6-12” tall x
6-12” wide. Unlike most sedges which thrive in moist soils, Pennsylvania Sedge prefers
dry to average soils with good drainage. However, plants also tolerate wet
soils, making them ideal for shady gardens. Native of oak savannahs and dry
woodlands, Pennsylvania Sedge makes a perfect partner for oak trees. The fine
foliage provides excellent contrast for broad-leaf shade perennials like Hostas,
Hellebores, and Hydrangeas. It also works great as a mass planting beneath
architectural plants in modern designs. Plants spread slowly through rhizomes,
but are not overly aggressive. A good choice for erosion control and waterwise
gardening. Plant in the wildlife garden to provide shelter and attract birds
that feed on seeds.
