New Vintage™ Red Yarrow shines early summer through fall with clusters of ruby red blooms abuzz with pollinators. Fragrant flowers stand atop sturdy stems perfect for cutting and drying. The lacy foliage looks delicate, but Yarrow is a rugged plant, thriving in hot, dry sites, including sidewalk gardens. Use it for erosion control or as an addition to pollinator gardens. (Achillea millefolium)
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
New Vintage™ Red Yarrow provides weeks of blooms that attract bees and butterflies to the garden, making it a welcome addition to pollinator gardens. This resilient plant is used often in xeriscapes and challenging sites such as hellstrips and full-sun container plantings. Yarrow also looks at home in meadows and cottage gardens alongside prairie plants like Coneflower, Butterfly Weed, and Black Eyed Susan. Plant it at the front of borders for interesting texture and vivid color. The dense flower clusters also support beneficial flies, including flower flies (Syrphid) and parasitic Tachinid flies, both of which are important for the natural control of garden pests. Try planting Yarrow alongside fruits and vegetables to attract beneficial insects to the garden. New Vintage® Red Yarrow is deer resistant and rabbit resistant. It is an ideal plant for your most challenging planting sites.
