USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

Children naturally love butterflies and these Plantable Seed Paper Butterflies will teach the children in your life about growing wildflowers to attract butterflies and other pollinators. Made in a solar-powered facility in the USA, these 2.3” x 1.8” bright and beautiful butterflies are fun and easy to plant and grow. The handmade seed paper can be easily planted in a soil-filled pot or outdoor garden bed. Just tear the paper into small pieces, soak it in water overnight and then barely cover it with soil or potting soil outside. Keep watering daily until seeds sprout, making sure the seedlings receive an inch of water each week as they grow.
