Plant Information

At temperatures ten to fifteen degrees cooler than found in the sunny parts of your yard, why not plant yourself an entire outdoor room within the shade? Our Shade Loving Garden has been artfully designed to show off 23 plants that thrive in shady spots. Mature plants will fill a 12 x 6' rectangular bed or 72 square feet of planting space.

Includes: 1 All Summer Beauty Hydrangea, 1 Black Bugbane (Actaea), 3 Montgomery Astilbe (False Spirea), 3 The Rocket Golden Ray (Ligularia), 3 Pink Bleeding Heart (Dicentra), 3 Patriot Hosta (Plantain Lily), 3 Columbine Viola (Violet), 3 Orchid Frost Lamium (Dead Nettle), and 3 White Nancy Lamium (Dead Nettle).

Comes with detailed care instructions and 3 diagrams illustrating correct layouts for planting in rectangular, island, and corner-shaped beds. We do reserve the right to make substitutions; however, our replacement plants are always very similar.

All perennials and spring-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.

Perennials and spring-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your hardiness zone. Perennial and spring-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. Q & A

Plant With These:

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
