Overview
Double-petal freesia is an elegant, bell-shaped flower which lends a delightful fragrance to garden beds, containers, and vases. This colorful mixture of purple, white, yellow and pink is the perfect way to cheer up any garden space. In colder zones, Freesia is considered an annual that can be successfully planted in the spring, as long as the bulbs are 'lifted' in the fall before winter sets in. Freesia is best suited for warmer climates (zones 9-10) and blooms in late spring. (Freesia)

Description

Freesia is a genus of herbaceous perennial flower plants in the family Iridaceae. It is native to Kenya and South Africa.

Plant Care

Freesias should be grown in full sun and planted in moist but well drained soil. They need lots of warmth and humidity. Freesias are “zygomorphic” meaning they grow blossoms along one side of their stem, in a single plane. They are very fragrant and used for cut flowers. Freesia is suited for warmer zones. Divide after three years to prevent overcrowding.
