Description

(6-12” tall) It’s hard not to stare at Fox’s Grape Fritillary (Fritillaria uva-vulpis). The nodding bell-like blooms are unusually delicate and beautiful. Inner petals of gold are cloaked in glaucous purple outer petals – but not enough to hide the edges of their golden petticoats! The effect is stunning and you’ll find yourself wanting to grow even more. Fox’s Grape hails from Asia Minor and Iran and appreciates a well-drained, organically rich soil where the bulbs won’t rot due to overly wet conditions. Plant in the front of the border or naturalize in lawns and meadows – paying extra attention that this delicate flower is not out-competed by thuggish perennials or weeds. Fox’s Grape Fritillary can be planted densely at 12 per square foot, making sure that bulbs are at least 3” deep. Highly deer resistant and a lovely accompaniment to mid-season Daffodils.
