The famous Greigii Tulips are the largest group of modern hybrids that are very close to some of the wild species. This is one reason they're so dependably perennial.

Commonly called rockgarden tulips, these are the ones with big, full blooms on short stems, only about 12' tall. The foliage is dramatically striped, the flowers are particularly brilliant in color.
