Overview
Monkshood, also known as Wolfsbane, puts on tall, beautiful spikes of bloom in late spring. Each deep-violet flower is shaped like hood or cowl, giving rise to the common name. Very showy and tolerant of both deer and bunnies, it's no wonder this gorgeous flower has been popular in gardens since medieval times. (Aconitum napellus)

Description
Monkshood often reminds gardeners of delphiniums since the rich blue color is the same. But its much easier to grow. First of all, Monkshood is plenty tall, but shorter than the towering delphiniums that always need staking. This one stands on its own. And its not as brittle as a delphinium, so does a simpler job of adding tall blue flower spikes to your late spring garden. The roots are poisonous.
