Description

Standing up to four feet tall, ‘Burning Hearts’ Heliopsis makes a powerful statement in the garden or meadow. Heliopsis helianthoides is native to eastern and central North America, and the ‘Burning Hearts’ cultivar was selected for its unique foliage color and vibrant blooms that reach 2-3 inches in diameter. This plant thrives in dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun, but tolerates clay soils and light shade. Though drought-tolerant, plants perform better if watered regularly. Tolerant to heat and humidity, Heliopsis is a great choice for southern gardens. Plant at the back of mixed borders, in naturalized meadow style planting, pollinator gardens, or in large containers. Plants can be cut back by one-half in late spring, before flowering, to control height. Deadheading spent flowers will extend the blooming season, or leave spent flowers standing to provide seeds for songbirds.
