Description
24-36" tall x 18" wide. The unusual color and texture of Lightheaded Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) adds a unique touch to the mid-to-late spring garden. White standards infused with gold rise out of red ruffled leathery falls edged in white. Tangerine beards accent the whole. Blooming in mid-to-late spring, at a height of 24-36" tall, Lightheaded harmonizes nicely with midseason Tulips, Daffodils, and Allium. Plant them in front of evergreen shrubs where their complementary colors and texture can shine. Pinch off spent blooms as they fade, and once the flower stalk has finished flowering, it may be cut off a few inches above the ground. Deer and rabbit resistant, this Bearded Iris is quite drought tolerant once blooming is completed. Just feed with bone meal in the fall and organic bulb food in spring. Keep the soil moist until after blooming is finished, but make sure Iris don't have wet feet. After blooming, Bearded Iris is a water-thrifty, easy keeper.
