Description
24-36" tall x 18" wide. Social Event Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) blooms with peachy-pink ruffles lit by bright tangerine beards, warming up the late spring garden. The large flowers stand tall at 24-36", and they harmonize with late spring Larkspurs (Delphiniums), ornamental grasses, and perennials. Beautiful as cut flowers, plant extra of this easy grower for indoor use. For cut flowers, trim the stalks near the base just as the buds are about to open (cut some foliage too for vertical interest). Keep them out of direct light and pinch off spent flowers just as you would in the garden. Social Event is one of the best growing 'pink' Iris and will multiply and spread over time increasing your enjoyment. Plant the rhizomes (bulbs) in well-draining soil in a mostly sunny spot and fertilize in fall and spring to keep the blooms coming. Once flowering has finished the flower stalks may be cut back leaving the sword-like foliage as a visual element in the summer garden.
