The Southeastern USA Plains Ecoregion (Ecoregion 8.3) is an EPA Level II Ecoregion. This ecoregion extends through a large swath of the states along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, as well as a large swath of the Midwest. This large ecoregion including portions of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia.
Large cities within the ecoregion include Washington, DC; Nashville and Memphis, TN; Jackson, MS; Louisville, KY; Raleigh and Charlotte, NC; Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; St. Louis, MO. This ecoregion is characterized by its humid subtropical climate with well-defined seasons, flat to rolling hills, a mix of forests, agricultural lands, and urban areas.
