Overview
Tufted Hair Grass is one of the few ornamental grasses to thrive in moderate shade, opening up a world of possibilities. It has deep green narrow leaves that form a mounding habit. Lofty clouds of delicate purple flowers rise up to 3 feet tall, swaying in the slightest breeze. This grass turns a tawny gold in late summer. Leave the grass standing over winter to complement frost and snow. It is deer and rabbit resistant for easy meadowscaping. (Deschampsia cespitosa)

Planted in mass or with other grasses it can create a lovely meadowscape. Plant with ferns and hostas for a unique look. Easy care, just cut old growth to the ground in early spring before new growth emerges. It is a larval food plant for several butterflies in North America including the Umber Skipper.
