Description
Downy Wood Mint, also known as Belphilia ciliata, attracts a variety of pollinators to the early summer garden with its dense, lavender/pink flowers that resemble Bee Balm. Although it’s a member of the mint family, this native variety is less aggressive and less fragrant than other mint varieties.
This native beauty grows to be about 12-12” tall and thrives in full sun to partial shade, tolerating average to dry soil. If planted in moist or overly shaded areas, Downy Wood Mint could get powdery mildew, so it's best to keep plants in a drier, well-ventilated area of the garden or meadow. We recommend planting this purple wildflower in rock gardens, perennial borders, wildflower meadows, cottage gardens and everything in between!
