Description
This wonderful, short annual phlox species was discovered in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area by Thomas Drummond, an English plant explorer in 1835. It occurs in nature in reds, pinks and whites, but seed available for today’s meadows is usually all red. The native species has been hybridized heavily into a rainbow of various annual phlox colors. (Not to be confused with creeping phlox, a perennial species.) Drummond phlox today is established along sandy roadsides all the way from Canada into central Florida. A great meadow plant.
