Native to Missouri, this easy-to-grow, drought tolerant variety grows to be only 6-12” tall. Large, cheerful yellow blooms can reach 5” across and are slightly fragrant, blooming in the late spring to summer. This showy variety is perfect for almost any garden or meadow and even tolerates light shade. Missouri Evening Primrose also self-seeds, coming back year after year.

The evening primroses are a group of yellow-flowered plants that range from short "sundrops" to the tall ones like this species. Unlike the roadside weed, Oenothera biennis, O. lamarckiana makes a good meadow plant. Flowers open in the afternoon and are closed by morning. See related species—the ground-hugging, very large-flowered Missouri Primrose, O. missouriensis and the famous pink-flowered Showy Evening Primrose, O. speciosa.
