Description
As all wildgardeners know, there are several species of Black-Eyed Susan among our native flowers. The most common roadside one is a biennial named Rudbeckia hirta. (We sell that seed in our regular species listings.) Then there are the perennial natives, such as the most famous R. fulgida, famous as the parent of the popular perennial, "Rudbeckia Goldsturm." (We sell that in our Perennial Plant section.)
But this one is unique. Growing only from 2 to 5 ft. (Some are much taller.) R. subtomentosa has beautiful golden flowers like the others, but the blooms also have a sweet scent of anise. That's why another common name for this Rudbeckia is "Sweet Coneflower." It's a wonderful plant for a wild garden collection.
