USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
Sedge ‘Blue Zinger’ is at home in woodland gardens, cottage-style plantings, and water gardens. The soft color and texture complement broad-leaved perennials and strappy foliage like that of iris. Use as an accent in mixed borders or as a platform for upright shrubs. ‘Blue Zinger’ looks lovely beneath the canopy of open, low-growing trees. Adaptable to a variety of soils, sedges prefer even moisture, but are drought tolerant once established. Plant in wet areas where other plants fail. ‘Blue Zinger’ thrives in partial shade and requires sun protection in hot dry climates. Plants spreads slowly through rhizomes to form a dense mat. Cut back foliage in early spring before new growth appears to keep sedge looking tidy. Clumps can be divided every 2 to 3 years. Deer resistant.
