USDA Hardiness Planting Zones
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

All that's required is to choose a sunny spot, remove existing growth, loosen or till the soil, and scatter the seed evenly. Then compress it into the bare earth; do not cover. (Walking over it does a good job.) Other than watering and one mowing after frost in the fall, that's it. All the rest is pleasure-a rainbow of color outside, and armloads of cut flowers all season long. You can plant in spring after frosts, during the summer, or in fall after growing season ends. This mix may be used for meadow areas, borders, unused areas-anywhere the gardener wants a full season of full color. Color should begin the first year just a few weeks after sprouting; perennials return year after year with increased bloom.
