I sprinkled 1lb. of this seed mix around my garden when autumn rains arrived in 2011. I started to see a tinge of growth even through winter and a little snow in Southern Arizona, 30 minutes north of Tucson. Then a HUGE explosion of endless flowers and colors every single day, lots of blues and hot pinks too, in spring through early summer. It is dry here so I water my garden every morning early. You can see the flowers on my site, but I am not allowed to link to it here. Also, the list that American Meadows provides with all the names of the flower seeds in the bag, allowed me to identify all the flowers I did not recognize. Great all around!

I was quite disappointed in this product. I planted in early November of last year. We got a fair amount of rain and I watered when it didn't rain for more than a week. I planted in disturbed soil that I wanted to stabilize and have some color. Some native grasses came up and about a dozen wild flowers. I had four blossoms total. I have used other brands of wildflower seeds and did quite well, but this didn't work.

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

Planting this mix in fall 2016 was one of my first wildflower seed attempts. I live in the desert and I put this in the very most brutal spot in our yard. Then I neglected it, hoping that snowmelt and spring rains would be enough moisture without supplemental watering. But, we had a drought and a heat wave and nothing was doing well, not even established perennials. Too late in the game I finally decided to start watering. In other words, I did everything wrong! And still, the hardiest and most drought and heat tolerant of the seeds still ended up producing for me. I got poppies, bachelor buttons, sweet sultans, cosmos, calendula, baby's breath, coreopsis, etc.
Next spring I plan on doing things right and providing sufficient water in order to enjoy an even greater showing :-)

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

Had a dry fall and late winter. Anticipate planting in March when the ground is thawed at our 6400 ft elevation. Dry windy spring has begun so will sprinkle compost over seeds and cover with thin white sun protector fabric, and water daily until sprout. This worked with previous American Meadows mixes. Have lost lots of previous orders finally figuring out this method.

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

I planted these wildflowers in December. An unforeseen warm spell happened in January and seedlings appeared prematurely. I called American Meadows for advice, and they graciously sent me a courtesy replacement seed packet. I planted the new seeds in Spring, and they are coming up wonderfully well. I'm so happy with how healthy and abundant the meadow is, and so excited to see the early blooms. Thanks American Meadows!!!

I planted my seeds in Feb/March. I spread my wildflowers by hand but it turned out ok. The field looks full and I can start to see flowers developing. I am anticipating a beautiful looking field of wild flowers soon.

I really can't give an accurate evaluation now because it's too early in the season. All I see now is green although there is a lot of it. Maybe you can ask me to evaluate later this summer.

I used a seed spreader and walked around our slope. I just walked on the seeds and started watering. We got a good rain storm afterwards. It is still winter in California and the flowers are growing so fast. They are beautiful! I can see the flowers from my kitchen window. Excellent product and so easy to spread.

I was going to spread the seed before the first snow cover, but was unable to put it down and we had snow cover all winter here in the northeast. I have bird feeders so birds frequent my yard. In the spring, I decided to spread the seed densely to combat the bird population. Apparently, they were not interested in this seed and I have a green carpet growing. I may have to thin it out, but so far, very hearty.

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

After 18 years of trying (and mostly failing) to grow flowers from seed in Vermont, we now live in Pennsylvania and I decided to try this mix again in my new location. I am absolutely blown away. This mix gives, gives, gives, all summer long and now into fall. And the varieties! I had to look half of them up. I've never seen a nicer wildflower garden, throughout the season, than from this mix. Every day (OK, sometimes more than once a day), I've said to myself, "I've got to tell American Meadows how happy and amazed I am" so here it is. If the mix doesn't work for you (as it didn't for me all those years), it's not the mix! It's your conditions (soil, sun, etc.).

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

I sowed my seed last year in the fall just as directed... I cleaned up my beds - 2 of about 5'x10'each - and spread the seed. I eagerly awaited spring to see what would come up. The first to pop up were Bachelor Buttons... and there were a LOT. There were a few other things that came up that were very pretty as well. Unfortunately, my landlady informed in Febuary that I had to move in June. :( So I was unable to see the other flowers left to arrive. I had mostly pink and purple - mostly bachelor buttons and a few splashes of red for spring. I believe this is a great product. Follow the directions - you won't see the flowers in the fall, but in the spring. This product covered a 10'x20' area nicely. Hope to do it again.

I used the this mix in two differnt area's one was a large flowere bed used for only wild flowers, the second in a small area along side my drive way. I love the color and flower mix, it adds a nice touch to the area and I have received lot's of comments from my neighbors on the flower bed locations.

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

If I had 1/10th of what the photos show I would have been happier with the product. I tried regional, shade and wild flower mixes. Lots of alyssum, few Nasturtiums, one Four O'clock, one sunflower in red, few daisy type, few low growing pink and blue flowers. The majority are tall 15-18" plants but no buds nor flowers to identify them. My city did not appreciate all of the effort to make a flower meadow. There was a good suggestion about posting photos with the seed names to make identification easier.

Comments about American Meadows Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix:

The seeds took longer than expected to germinate, but once the mix got going, it seemed to be well designed. The small, low white flowers come first, filling the area planted. Then some low verigated blossoms appear, along with some different and taller whites. Then, like fourth-of-July fireworks, the large, tall reds, purples, blues and yellows burst forth. The area is still developing, and new blossoms appear almost daily. I am very happy with these seeds.

I've used this mix several years. I usually sow the seed in the late winter or early spring. This year we had a prediction of a foot of snow, and I put the seeds out just before that storm hit, and the results are very good. It may be just my garden, but I get a lot of phlox. I'd like to see fewer phlox seeds and more of the others.

I have used various wild flower mixes from American Meadows on a hill behind my house. I am constantly amazed and delighted by the various blooms that result. Last year we had a drought in my area and while others watched their gardens burn up my wildflowers just kept right on going strong.

I needed a fast, reliable fill in for a large bare spot. I thought something to fill up space before I put perennial bed with in. So the story is I HAVE NOT PUT ONE PERENNIAL IN. It filled in so nicely and was gorgeous! Butterflies galore and Hummingbirds too. I am so happy with this mix that I am going to get another bed ready so I can do another. If you stuck with me to the end of this slight ramble-bottom line is this mix will not disappoint!

I am developing a pre-settlement prairie with a large amount of flowers....this mix, of annuals and perennials, gives color in the first year as well as more to come with the perennials in the next and following years. I'm thrilled with the results so far....last year in spite of a horrible drought the seeds that didn't come up laid dorment and are coming this year....I have many flowers this year (as I write this, looking out at it...a veritable sea of white with blue and orange and red "splotches"....beautiful!)

Tilled up the grown where I wanted these to grow last fall. Planted an entire bag during suggested fall planting time. This spring, added another entire bag to the area that was tilled. Have had almost none of the seeds sprout. Very disappointed.

Last year, I had a father stop to photograph his daughter amidst my wildflower patch for her senior pictures. Everyone comments on them.

                                                      Plant With These:

                                                      USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                                      • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                                      • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
