Prairie Smoke, or Geum triflorum, is a native prairie flower that will spread slowly in your garden or meadow. Despite being slow to establish in your garden, it is well worth the wait as the flowers fade and the smoke-like feathery tails emerge, adding texture and movement in the breeze. Prairie Smoke grows best in dry, well-draining soil with full sun (at least six hours per day).
Growing to be only 6-18”, this prairie flower is perfect for a small space or border garden. Prairie Smoke, also known as Old Mans Whiskers or Purple Avens, is perfect for rock gardens and is deer resistant. We recommend giving the plants some space and not overcrowding it in a bed with taller perennials. All of the seed we handle at American Meadows is non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free and guaranteed to grow.
