Comments about American Meadows Organic Calendula Seeds:

Easy to grow annual that spreads & returns yearly. Proliferic nice size daisy like blooms in various shades of yellow to orange. Sturdy plants 6-12" tall with soft slightly fuzzy lobe shaped leaves. Blooms Spring through Autumn. It will become a bit rangy when it starts to go to seed. The seeds are large, slightly poky & curved but do not stick like burrs so innocuous. Whenever I see the dry seed heads on the plants, I just cup my hand over it & pull them off then sprinkle on the ground wherever I want them to appear. I never water them & they'll just appear. They like heat & full sun. Grow well next to sidewalks & pop up in the gravel. The roots are deep but they're not difficult to pull up — just do it before they go to seed or they'll spread all over.

Q & A

Plant With These:

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
