About Our Native Plant Lists For Each State

• You might notice that the plant list is similar for many states. Why is that? Native plants don't know about state lines! Many of the native plants and seeds available from American Meadows have a wide distribution that covers many states.
• The links will take you to a single plant or seed selection — in many cases, multiple cultivars are available. This list is a work in progress as we expand our native plant educational resources.
• This is a great starting point, but not a comprehensive list of all native species in your state.

About Native Plants

• Native plants are essential for healthy ecosystems and habitat. Many pollinators rely on them for survival. For instance, some bees are specialists and require specific native plants; and butterflies and moths often have specific host plants for their caterpillars. Asclepias (Milkweed/Butterfly Weed) is required for Monarch caterpillars.
• It’s OK to grow native plants from nearby regions — not all non-natives are invasive or harmful. Well-behaved introduced plants suited to your conditions can still benefit your yard (especially versus a traditional turf lawn).
