The farm’s beautiful riverfront is now a blooming wildflower meadow. Our Member, Dennis Gilliard is a caretaker for Rodney and Joy Burbach who own 153-acre Farm in Town Point near Cambridge, Maryland—a beautiful piece of land that fronts on the scenic Little Choptank River. Cambridge is near the bay side of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the peninsula that extends down offshore from Washington, DC, creating the Chesapeake Bay. The whole area is a magnificent network of lovely rivers and other waterways feeding into the big bay, and the Burbachs Little Choptank River is no exception.
He decided to add some color to the Burbachs riverfront acreage, and planted wildflowers from American Meadows in May of 2008. He writes that he chose about 10 pounds of mostly perennials to create a permanent stand of wildflowers over about 1 ½ acres.
As you can see, his wildflower plantings were a huge success. Of course. Mr. Gilliard is the caretaker, so he knows how to make things grow! And just look at the wonderful wildflower meadow he created along the riverfront, enhancing a view that was already spectacular. Thanks, Dennis, for sharing your great photos!
