"There is a swath on my backyard hillside that is difficult to manage. Nothing would grow there. I started trying to use decorative plants that can handle shade below our heavily wooded lot. I've had some success, but sadly this grass had 50% success. I like the idea, but it is slow going at first."

Unlike most sedges which thrive in moist soils, Pennsylvania Sedge prefers dry to average soils with good drainage. However, plants do tolerate wet soils, making them ideal for any shady garden. Native to North American oak savannahs and dry woodlands, Pennsylvania Sedge makes a perfect partner for oak trees. Plants spread slowly through rhizomes, but are not overly aggressive. A good choice for erosion control and waterwise gardening. Plant in the wildlife garden to provide shelter and attract birds that feed on seeds.
