Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
About the Monardas This is a hybrid of the famous American wildflower with the bright red crown-shaped flowers, a description of the large scarlet blooms everyone and every hummingbird loves.
There are other species, but our famous Monarda or Bee Balm is native from the far north all the way south to Georgia, it was first discovered by world famous plant explorer John Bartram during the colonial era. Since it’s a member of the mint family with fragrant foliage, Bee Balm was always a medicinal plant of the Native Americans, and today adds wonderful color to perennial gardens and wildflower meadows. It’s a strong-growing perennial that likes moisture, and will grow in sun or partial shade.
As with all Bee Balms, the bloom begins in mid-summer, and if you cut off spent flowers for about three weeks, you'll extend the blooming into fall.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"Received these today. They were extremely dry and wilted. Some leaves fell off as I was unpacking. I immediately planted and watered. Hoping they survive."
"Upon receiving these plants I transplanted them into larger pots. They immediately took off. They have become somewhat bushy and are showing new sprouts around the bases . I have no blooms thus far but can't wait to to see some! Love these plants so far and will likely keep growing more of these."
"Since my yard is so small, I have it in a container on my steps. I am looking forward to the beautiful blooms that will invite honey bees to stop by."
"Plant is growing well. Can't Walt to see it bloom."
"Nice little plant with good root system. Long way to go but they're getting bigger with each passing week."
"Bought to attract pollinators in my area. Also like because the miniature species is better for my containers as well."
"This beautiful plant grew quickly to full size and bloomed all summer. Bumblebees love it!"
"I love the Bee Balm. It's much prettier than I was expecting. It's doing very well"
"I wanted some pollinator plants for my garden and Bee Balm is essential. I fell in love with the magenta color and was not disappointed. This plant has done well through the cool dips and hot weather we have had this summer and bloomed so well that I will need to look at moving it to a larger area- it's outgrown its current home. I will be purchasing more for other areas of the yard."
"I am a first time purchaser from American Meadows. The description and pictures helped me choose the plants I purchased. The communication received from American Meadows regarding my order and the shipping process were accurate and timely. The plants shipped well packaged and healthy. After planting the 2 plants, 1 seemed to grow well and strong. The other plant's leaves kept getting eaten by some sort of pest. They were planted on different sides of the yard. I finally sprayed some soap water on the plant and now it seems to be growing well with no pests attacking it. I can't wait to see it flower."
