How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
'Babylon Red' is part of the famous Babylon Series, which are some of the classic Dahlias in solid colors. Dinner Plate Dahlias like this are considered the standards by which new dahlias are judged.
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"I planted in the ground"
"This is my second time buying Dinner Plate Dahlias. I love the size but was disappointed in the color. The ad and tag picture show a bright red dahlia. Although mine are pretty, they are not bright red which is disappointing. They are a dark red that almost looks purple. Purple I already had so I did not end up adding to my garden."
". . . it isn't a red-red color like the picture- at all! It is definitely a deep burgundy color. I was hoping for a color like the picture to really "glow" in the garden. It's still a nice color, just not what's pictured."
"Plants are still producing some flowers in late August. They were never "dinner-plate" size, but closer to 5 inches across. I'll plant them again. Tough to find Dahlias that really do well in zone 10."
"Beautiful intense clear red color. Most blooms not dinner plate size but more semi-dinner plate size but gorgeous blooms all the same."
"These arrived looking large & healthy. Planted them in a sunny spot, at the back of the bed, against the fence and now, they're in full bloom. Looking great. Very happy with them."
"These were replacement product that arrived kind of late in the season. We planted them in full sun and they are gorgeous and blooming like crazy. Very lovely vibrant red color."
"Nice and tall. I had to stake one of them so it wouldn't flop over."
"I put these in my garden and just watched them grow. Very low maintenance"
