Description
(36-48" tall x 10" wide) Green Star Gladiolus is an easy-care garden favorite in an unusual color—green! It contrasts beautifully with reds, purples and blues or harmonizes gently with yellows and whites. Individual, trumpet-like flowers are borne on tall flower spikes (inflorescences) that emerge in summer from sword-shaped leaves. Flowers open slowly from the bottom up, revealing gentle tones of lime contrasted by white anthers. Green flowers are unusual in the garden, and you’re sure to turn the heads of your visitors. As a strong vertical bloomer, Green Star Gladiolus makes an excellent cut flower. Simply cut the spikes when the very first buds just begin to open for the longest lasting display. Glads prefer full sun and appreciate rich, well-drained soil that is moisture retentive. Shelter them from high winds or lightly stake the flowering spikes. Corms can be lifted and stored in fall in cold winter zones.
