How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Growing Bearded Irises These majestic flowers are surprisingly easy to grow, and actually require less attention than almost any other garden flowers. Your iris roots will arrive with the foliage "trimmed" from this spring's growth. You'll find the "root" is not really a bulb, but what is called a "rhizome"--an irregularly shaped bulbous root that grows at a right angle from the foliage. Leave the trimmed foliage as it is, and simply bury the rhizome with the top of it showing through the soil surface. Bearded irises grow best with the tops of their rhizomes exposed.
Next spring, new foliage and the flower spikes will sprout strongly from the rhizome. What's more, next summer, you'll notice the rhizome multiplying for even more flowers as years go by.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"Has bloomed each spring since planted fall of 2033 reblooms in the fall. Rhizome was dry but healthy when planted."
"We planted the Immortality Reblooming Bearded Iris at our office in Shelburne VT a couple years ago. I thought the white might be boring at first. Boy was I wrong. . . The white blooms offer a sharp contrast to the green stems and any other colorful flowers planted along side it. It really elevates the space. The bloom is a true white- it sometimes even sparkles in the sunlight! I'm thrilled to say that they are officially one of my favorite bearded iris."
"#sweepstakes plant is growing well and has a bud. I'm so excited as previous purchases from other vendors NEVER emerged! I'm looking forward to more next season as this bulb naturalizes."
"I planted all my irises according to instructions and the plant itself is large and full but it has not bloomed yet. I will give it another Spring."
"See above. The leaves came up but no flowers."
"First year bloom. About 20 inches tall."
"The fragrance of Bearded Iris is one of my favorite smells and I look forward to it every June when they bloom. Immortality is a classic reblooming variety, but I was blown away when it rebloomed last week! I had a Bearded Iris stalk in full bloom on October 2. What a wonderful surprise! As long as the rhizomes aren't too crowded, Immortality is a reliable summer bloomer - and rebloomer in early autumn. One last scent of summer. . ."
"Plated when I got the bulbs last fall and they never popped up this year, the black ones popped up but not these white ones."
"I planted two of these. This really is a magnificent plant. Each stalk has several buds. It reliably repeats in the fall, although sometimes it already is too cold."
"I ordered and planted about a dozen IMMORTALITIES from American Meadows several years ago for my Zone 3 farmhouse garden in northeastern Vermont. They have naturalized into a several beautiful drifts and are among the first bloomers for me each spring. After a particularly long and harsh winter, thank you American Meadows!"
