How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
This short Fritillaria, called Checkered Lily' is famous for the cross-cross pattern in its petals. At only 10", blooming in mid-spring, these are great ornaments for the front edge of the spring garden. Dependably perennial.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"I bought these for the chequered ones even though white came in the mix, to my surprise no white ones came up and only 4 lillies came up at all, they're pretty but under whelming if not planted in a mass"
"I have not been successful with many of the items I have bought these along with the alliums I bought last year never produced any sign of growth."
"I planted several of these in a strip along the side of my garage. In the first year only two bloomed. However, both of them very clearly had lovely checks, one dark purple with light checks and one light with dark. The really interesting thing is that they self-dried and stayed lovely for over a week after the blossom had died! I hope that next year the rest will see fit to join them."
"Delicate but so I teresting. flowers are as pictured. Hope the y come upnot all came up next year."
"These are such a fun and unique bloom. Love seeing these in early spring. I planted these several years ago and they reliably come back in my (now somewhat neglected) shade bed. They show up each spring and every time it's the same excitement and delight at their unique and striking blooms. They really do have the checkerboard patterns, so cool! I will leave some of the blooms in the garden but always cut some for early bouquets. These are a star to start my seasonal tradition of "fresh cut flowers till frost" mission each year."
"I planted the Fritillaria in the Fall of 2020 and they bloomed nicely in the Spring of 2021 but were smaller than I had expected. This past Spring they were much taller snd more abundant and so lovely. I love the uniqueness of this flower."
"Love this little flower! I look forward to it's arrival every spring and it has come back for 3 years already! Easy to grow and unique in appearance."
"Like this little flower, but disappointed to only have one bloom. Might try again this fall and see if we can get a few more- hoping it naturalizes too…"
"I purchased two bags of these checkered lilies last year during a half-off sale. This spring, about half of those 30 bulbs have grown, with some minimal critter damage, resulting in slightly fewer than 15 flowers. They are *really* cool to look at, and considering the price, I suppose a 50% growth rate isn't so bad. Just be sure to purchase double what you need/want!!"
"Planted along sidewalk."
