The 'Wild Tulips'. Click here to read the fascinating history of the Wild Tulips and Daffodils. There are about 150 species of tulips that occur in the wild from Central Asia all the way to Spain and Portugal. Most are native to rocky, arid regions east of Europe. It is hard to believe that these little flowers, more the size of crocus, are the original forms of the big flashy hybridized tulips we all know and love. But to any wildflower gardener who looks close, the brilliant colors and even the petal shapes and other characteristics are there. (By the way, all the species bulbs we sell are produced in Holland, so they are never gathered in the wild in their native lands.) They are all really botanical heirlooms in the truest sense, and deserve a place in every wild garden.

"looked good in bed but a little flimsy"
"I planted them on the Boulevard"
"These are small happy tullips. They are about the size of a crocus but last much longer. They were happy little flowers that I mixed in, in front of the larger tulips. I did not order in a group as these are offered, but had two varieties."
"I used this scattered in the front of a 30 foot long bed here and there, hoping they naturalize over the years. It is a different look than more traditional tulips but one I like. They are just now fading mid June in region 5 Montana and started fairy early. Open in the heat of the day and close at night. I am going to purchase more for the front of the house where there is no deer fencing and hope our local herds also think this wild tulip is deer resistant."
"A Great Value"
"I planted them in one spot as bulk planting in the fall of 2016. This spring, many came up. I saw 15+ very lovely intimate flowers, so I would say mostly all of them came up. The flowers were indeed very very pretty, they almost looked like crocus flowers when fully opened. I LOVE them! The colors I got were pale yellow, pale pink, yellow-reddish kind color, and white. I expected more vivid color, but that's ok as probably these pale colors are unique to this kind of tulip. Just for your comparison, they are shorter than the regular tulip and stems are thinner (see comparison in my attached pic). Bulk planting is the way to go, so I am going to order more for next year."
"Very pretty"
"Such a beautiful grouping"
"very beautiful and easy to grow"
"I put these in pots in shade under my tree and in the sunny spots of my garden. They did well in both areas. I love the bright spots of color they bring. Only problem I had was that the squirrels loved eating them. They actively dug up the ones they could find and had a feast. I plan to order more. Love them!"
