Johnny Jump Up Seeds sport a cheery purple, yellow and white “face”, reminding us of pansies. It is mentioned by Shakespeare, and also in Greek mythology, where it is said to have once been pure white, until wounded with one of Cupid’s arrows. A great, permanent species for the edges or front of any wild meadow, and very useful under high trees. (If planted in partial shade, it can bloom all season.)
* also often called Viola tricolor.

"These are very expensive seeds so I had to wait a while to purchase them. . had high hopes for them. . they are just so beautiful. . I planted all of the seeds. I maybe had 5 or 10 at the Moe's come up and now everything has died out. ."
"In NJ, I planted these (in leftover containers from nursery plants) last August so I'd have blooms this Spring. They germinated in late summer/early fall; foliage stayed bright and healthy outside in winter temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit; and they began blooming in their containers in early spring. I've transplanted them all over the grounds, and I can't believe how profuse, healthy and bright they are. A pound of seed yielded many hundreds of containers full of healthy plants."
"Doesnt matter what Brand. I have tried all types. Not the brand ive found as far as getting started. There just a hard little flower to get going, does not like any competition. Years ago I just started planting 1/4lb in small areas, knowing only a few would germinate. Just the nature of the best ive found."
"I was hesitant to buy these because they are expensive, but they were worth it. I planted some in a full sun area, and some in partial shade in April. Though the descriptions says they will bloom continuously if you plant in shade, for me it was the opposite. The ones I planted in full sun bloomed from late May through the end of August. The number of flowers tapered off with the heat, but they still continued to bloom. The ones in shade bloomed through the end of June. They were short plants, perhaps 6 to 8 inches tall. I hope that they return this year. One note of warning: poppy seeds and Johnny jump up seeds look remarkably similar. If you order both of these seed types, write the name of the seed on the bags with a Sharpie. If you don't, you may end up confusing the two, as I did."
"This is NOT about a specific product. Due to the drought and extreme heat it has changed all the rules. I love (5-4stars) all of American Meadows products. One thing I want to mention to all is that American Meadows listens. I had asked a few times, perhaps others as well, asked for a wildflower blend for our specfic area, the "Sacramento Valley". They made one and I'm very pleased with it."
"I enjoy them in my rock garden. They do well in the high desert."
"These are perhaps the only wildflower seeds that survived the attack of the sparrows! They came up quickly in the fall, made it through our mild California winter and are blooming profusely right now. They like the shady/partly sunny spot they are in."
"These are great looking little flowers that do pretty well, once established. They do not spread to well where I live because growing conditions are pretty harsh, but I love them where I have them."
"We planted these seeds in pots and planters. They bloomed profusely all summer long last year. We have ordered more for this summer. We love the small purple and white blooms. There was a large pot on our front porch that was delightful to look at each time we came home last summer and fall."
"I am going to be giving these seeds as favors at my upcoming wedding and I was so excited to see you selling so many for such a good price. I think this will be enough but if it is not I am defiantly going to buy more from here!"
