"this plant is very low maintenance, the blooms are pretty and so are the leaves when not in bloom, BUT. . . i have been trying to get rid of it for years now and it just keeps coming back. this is a great plant for wild gardens, plant'n'forget"
"First time starting spiderwort from seed. Produced healthy plants and a new attraction by patio under maple trees."
"i used it as mulch after killing with round up. I've lost a few citrus killing this invasive plant. poison on of these in one spot with a hit of round up, and the poison follows roots, and has klled citrus many feet away, in a line, in the roots. it just runs and runs."
The Spiderworts ("wort" means simply stem, leaf or plant) are named for their discoverer, John Tradescant, an early English plant explorer. This one is native from Canada to Florida, and west to Illinois. The unusual ("spider-like) flowers have three petals each, and the whole plant has a rather tropical appearance, with blooms that range from pinkish to deep purple. They tolerate shade and enjoy lots of moisture.
