How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
(24-42 in tall x 12-16 in wide) Anise Hyssop is a summertime anchor to the garden, providing long, nectar-laden flowers that bloom from mid-summer to fall. Fragrant flowers and foliage have a scent that’s minty meets licorice-anise and will attract many pollinators. Plant with other summer bloomers such as Echinacea, Agastache, Rudbeckia, and ornamental grasses, or add it to a fragrant herb garden. Its pale purple flowers harmonize beautifully with other summer blossoms. Native to the Northwest, it is found throughout most of the US and Canada. It’s a sturdy, robust grower and will spread over time to form attractive clumps that can be divided and replanted. Plant Anise Hyssop in a sun-to-part-shade location in loamy or light clay soil that drains well. No fertilizers or amendments needed, and once established it’s a drought-tolerant, pest-resistant perennial. Good as cut flowers and as a container plant, the flowers also make dried bouquets (hang upside down in shaded spot). The fresh flowers may be sprinkled in salads and the leaves, fresh or dried, make a delicious, soothing tea.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. "I planted the plant in autumn, properly placing it a couple feet from my Veronica Speedwell, thinking the blue color would nicely offset their bring pink spears. Unfortunately Spring came by, and no Anise Hyssop. Just the 2 lovely Veronica Speedwell from local nursery. Plant is dead, and not coming out. I live at 9,000 feet in Colorado Rockies, could be the problem? So I will stick with getting just seeds from American Meadows."
"Love these! Planted 2 last fall. Now, it's July, and they're both flourishing! Big, bushy, strong very healthy plants. 3 foot tall already, and almost a foot wide. We had a cold, winter with piles of deep wet snow. A late wet spring. And, probably a burning hot summer to come. And, they are doing great. Planted in a sunny spot with bee balms and coneflowers. They'll bloom in the next week or so, can't wait!"
"Arrived as a small healthy plant. Has grown into a fabulous addition to our flower bed. The pollinators love it."
"I used these as a mass planting along my barn and they look great!"
"When the plants arrived, I was afraid they wouldn't make it. The cold snap made it look like they were done for. . . but these plants had strong roots and are growing quickly. The leaves are a lovely color of green with traces of purple, and they taste amazing. I can't wait for them to grow big enough to harvest regularly. I expect that they will multiply by the end of the summer."
