How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
'Burgundy Glow' is a big favorite because of the great color it brings to shady spots--foliage is a collage of greens, pinks and creams. Flowers are deep blue.
An impressive groundcover, Ajuga is masterful at filling in spaces where other plants struggle to grow – even under Black Walnut trees. Its glossy, colorful foliage forms rosettes that stay close to the ground, creating a dense carpet that suppresses weeds and controls erosion. In summer, delightful flower spikes attract pollinators and add beauty to the summer landscape. Low-maintenance plants do not need trimming or deadheading. Ajuga, also called Bugleweed, is deer and rabbit-resistant, and readily adapts to a variety of conditions. Ajuga can be planted in full sun, part sun, and full shade locations, and it tolerates a wide range of soils, although it can be susceptible to root rot in very wet sites. It spreads by forming offshoots (stolons) that reach away from the plant, forming nodes and sending down roots where they touch the ground. Ajuga reptans is native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern Asia. Use this lovely, vigorous grower to your advantage!

"Still alive and growing"
"Arrived in excellent condition, seems to be thriving in very poor "soil," rabbits uninterested."
"The plants arrived in a jumbled mess at the bottom of a box that looked designed to hold pots securely - but it didn't. Pots were empty, roots were separated from the potting soil … BUT I dipped them each in water and planted them the next day and they all seem to be okay."
"These Burgundy Ajuga plants arrived packaged very safely and soil was still moist. They wanted nothing more than to be planted, watered, and to soak up the morning sunlight with afternoon shade. In a week they expanded their leaves and looked like they belonged where I planted them (that is, not crowded as when taken out of the shipping box). In one month they have new leaf growth, and the plants have begun to spread with multicolored leaves; one plant has begun blooming little purple flowers as shown in the seller's pics, the other plants will surely follow. This shade of little purple flowers contrasts beautifully with the greens and burgundy leaves. I look forward to these taking over and creating a beautiful groundcover in time. They perk up each time I water them, and they appear to have a small but noticeable burst of growth when it rains. I planted them around my flowering shrubs in Miracle-Gro in-ground soil with no other amendments, but I don't believe these ajuga plants are very picky about the soil. Note also, I purchased the Chocolate Chip Ajuga and the Catlin's Giant Ajuga as well, and I am having the same great results with those types also. Absolutely yes, I would recommend this seller and this product."
"I was familiar and just wanted more ajuga for my perimeter gardens."
"Very colorful, seems to be growing and spreading steadily. It provides excellent multicolored foliage. This is a fantastic plant."
"I thought I killed it 😢 But it came back better than before! 😍"
"rdered 9 plants for front of woodland garden. Only 2 or 3 lived. Not sure if it was too wet or there was too much mulch. I have planted ajuga in another garden and it is also in part shade but a drier area and is thriving so I would try again in a different garden but not this woodland garden."
"I planted this in an old tree stump with a taller grass like plant. The center was already pretty soft, I just hatcheted it a bit more and added some fertile soil from the garden. It covered the rotting stump beautifully. I'm hoping both plants survive the winter."
"I found this originally locally but in limited quantity. Found American Meadows with a web search for the product--couldn't be more delighted with the quick service and healthy plants! They are thriving and now I have a great new plant source!"
