Description
‘Chocolate Chip’ Ajuga (Ajuga x tenorii 'Valfredda') is a dwarf variety that shares its family’s trait of glossy, colorful foliage that helps suppress weeds and control erosion. It’s easy to grow and is deer- and rabbit-resistant. The long, narrow, oval leaves take on a chocolate color with burgundy highlights in spring. Bluish-purple flower spikes attract all kinds of pollinators. Chocolate Chip Ajuga prefers partial to full shade and moist well-drained soil, but it's highly adaptable. Do not plant in heavy clay and avoid overcrowding, as it is susceptible to crown rot. It doesn’t need trimming or deadheading, but it’s recommended to divide the plant when it gets too crowded.

"The shipping box was well-engineered and there were a couple of bonus plants included (thanks). The plants are tiny, but easy to plant. I planted in the fall and not much action the first year, but every one survived and resisted animal pests, hence the 101% rating. Now heading into year two the plants have increased their size 100% in the shade and 150-200% in the part-sun area. I would buy again."
