How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
36-48" tall, 12-36" wide. This is one of the most beautiful milkweeds. Not the common dusty-dull rose-flowered farm weed, but a really beautiful red-flowered form with much more refined foliage and habits. And like the orange-flowered Butterfly Weed, this one is a monarch magnet, great for butterfly gardens.
The milkweed family of North American plants is named Asclepias after Asclepias, the famous Greek God of Medicine, since the plants have long been used in herbal medicine.
This Asclepias, with its glowing red flowerheads, is best placed in a wet spot, or at least one that is wet part of the year, since that is its native habitat.
Native Range for Asclepias incarnata (Swamp Milkweed) - AL, AR, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, WY.

"7 sprouted plants out of 18 planted is not very good. Instructions followed diligently. The 7 are in various stages of growth from barely sprouted to one ready to bloom. I don't understand why the other 11 root stocks have dine nithing."
"The replacements I received were much healthier than the initial order. So far all 3 have survived and are thriving."
"The first 3 didn't make it but the replacements were much better. Quick customer service. Pleased with the outcome."
"About the same time that I ordered the "bag of 3" bare roots, I also spotted a 5" Cinderella Swamp milkweed at my local nursery. I picked up the live plant to get my garden started while waiting for the delivery. The price was the same for both. Within a week of getting the Cinderella Swamp milkweed bare roots into the ground each plant was sending up multiple shoots! For the price of one small plant from the nursery I was able to get 7 homegrown milkweeds!"
"I planted these in early spring, not expecting much the first year, just hoping they'd survive to mature the following years. But to my surprise, by late July, they'd grown to over a couple feet tall & started to show signs of bloom. I planted them in a mixed border of butterfly & bird-friendly plants in full sun, mainly afternoon sun, on a slight slope, beside and down from a birdbath that I jet-spray with the hose regularly to clean, causing water to soak the area around them pretty thoroughly - they seem to like it. (I'd done that to make up for the fact that otherwise, it'd be a very dry spot for this type of milkweed. ) I definitely want to buy more of these, even if I'm not sure where else I could put them, since the other area of my property that would work for them, required conditions-wise, is also where my dog could reach them. Milkweed being poisonous to dogs kind of nixes that. I might just have to expand the flowerbed where I planted these before."
"Planted in flower bed to attract butterfly larvae. They have not bloomed as yet."
"The milkweed grew quickly and is beautiful! Great color. I planted it with other plants that will attract butterflies."
"Planted in a wet area. Grew nicely but never flowered. Bought as a Monarch host plant so flowers weren't a necessity but they never found it preferring my native mw instead."
"The bees and butterflies loved this plant. Really pretty pink with large blooms I only rated 4 stars because of the 3 plants only 2 came up. on the bad side the aphids also loved this plant"
"Better than ones ordered from competitors and close to the ones I started from seed."
