Make a huge impact on your shady garden with ‘Alexander’s Great’ brunnera. The exceptionally large heart-shaped leaves of this selection make it stand out amongst other silver leaved brunneras, without sacrificing any of the characteristically delicate blue flowers in early spring. Deer resistant. Drought tolerant. (Brunnera macrophylla)
12-18” tall x 24-30” wide. Proving that bigger IS sometimes better, ‘Alexander’s Great’ is a selection of silver-leaved brunnera that will create a dramatic flourish in your shady garden. Introduced to the trade fairly recently, it has gained much attention for its huge clumps of deeply veined, silver heart-shaped leaves that thrive in part-sun or shady gardens. ‘Alexander’s Great’ prefers moist soil but like most brunneras, tolerates drought conditions well. It is a terrific choice for those with deer issues and makes a great perennial for remote garden beds. Consider siting ‘Alexander’s Great’ in stand-alone containers on shady decks or patios, as its clump forming habit, large size and low maintenance needs will have it looking good all season. Or pair the delicate blue blossoms with early spring daffodils to shout out the great news that spring has arrived!

"It settled well the first year it was shipped in Spring, although deer or some other animal (I get lots so I can't say for sure) got to it. Second year it came alive in the spring, beautiful display of baby blue flowers, and so far (early summer now) its been left alone by the animals. I hope that holds true until winter! I'm happy with it, one of the few success stories I have for plants purchased from this site."

Beautiful
"I'm new to gardening. This plant has been so easy to take care of and it has grown so well. I will be getting some more of these."
— Pnidiffer (5/5)
Pretty first year!
"So many things I order never show up or come in slowly taking several years to really come alive. These are pretty first year. So nice."
— Elly (5/5)
These are great!
"I love these! I planted a "shade" garden without realizing that the area gets more afternoon sun than I had anticipated. Oops! Most of the shade plants are struggling but these guys took off! One of my two gets significantly more sun than the other, and both are doing equally well. They also seem to tolerate a bit of drought better than many of the other plants and bounce back quickly when I've forgotten to water them."

Happy, easy plants
"I have had them in the ground for about 5 months now and they've grown to a decent size. I am assuming they won't reach full maturity this year because they're only about 10-18" wide, depending on the plant. The green in the leaves aren't as deep as I expected but, again, that could easily be because of their age. They're hearty; even the one I had mistakenly put in almost full sun did well - slightly pale leaves but still large. I've since moved it to a shadier location. I'm looking forward to seeing how big these guys get next year."

Growing slowly but well in the shade
"These brunnera came in the spring quite small. I wasn't sure they'd make it. But they've grown slowly over the past few months and seem to be holding out ok. They're in a shady spot, which is why the growth is very slow, I think."
