Black Bugbane is a unique beauty that boasts dark, coppery-purple foliage and spikes of fluffy, bottlebrush-shaped white flowers. Thrives in shade, part-shade and woodland settings with moist soils and is ignored by deer. Its showy flowers and interesting color are great paired with more traditional shade plants like hostas and ferns. Bugbane gets its name from its natural ability to repel insects. (Actaea simplex)

So far looks good

"I planted this in a partially shaded area. It's healthy, but small. I'm thinking it's not going to bloom this year, so hard to tell how it's going to perform overall."

Beautiful foliage !

"It arrived very healthy and took off producing foliage right away. I'm thrilled!"

Love my bugbanes, waiting for this one to bloom

"The original shipment was the standard variety - green with white fragrant flowers. American Meadows's customer service was quick to respond and sent me a replacement right away. I wanted the darker one to contrast with all the green in my super shady backyard. This one isn't as dark as in the picture (at least not yet), but I still like it. Looking fwd to the pink blossoms."

Amazing Plant

"This plant takes a few years to mature like the photo. But when it does, it is dramatic and smells so good."

Deer R. (5/5)

Hope for a great next year plant

"Adding shade gardens as my trees mature."

Here's hoping!!!

"Got this bulb in the mail about a month ago and it had a very healthy large root mass and many heads! About seven heads have already broken the surface! Can't wait to see where it goes from here!"
