How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Once winter wanes, there is no waiting for the magnificent saucer-sized flowers of Snow Queen. This one is what is called Type 1 Clematis which means it bloom on buds set in fall and then opening early in spring. The Type 1 vines give your garden several months of clematis bloom, since the Type II Clematis (most others--check their descriptions at the bottom of each vines page.) don't bloom until new growth and new buds have the time to develop.
Snow Queen is a type 1 Clematis. Clematis in this group are early season bloomers and flower from buds developed on the growth made the previous year. They should be pruned right after flowering to remove the dead foliage. Do not prune late in the season.

"Plants arrived pretty dry snd shaken up by the delivery. Placed into more dirt and eatered well. Hooefully they will perk up!"
"I absolutely love my Snow Queen Clematis, and am thrilled to have a bloom already in the second year before summer has even officially begun! All the leaves are healthy, they're growing and climbing well on my trellis, and training them to climb was pretty easy (and one vine has already gotten taller than the trellis, which I need to make some decisions about). My one issue is that about a week after the flower bloomed brown spotting began to appear on the petals. I'm looking into causes currently; the leading one I believe to be excess rain splashing up as the flower was so low to the ground. I chose to dead head it just in case while I do further research and may add rocks around the roots to try to decrease the effect in the meantime, as it looks like we're going to have another wet summer."
"Arrived well packaged and healthy. Growing on anarbor next to shed."
"They have not gotten any bigger than when they arrived but not dead"
"I bought 4 of these to serve as a white background along a cable and wood fence behind my peony garden. The flower shape is beautiful, but the color is NOT white. I would wonder if I received the right color, but two plants have bloomed and both are lavender. Customer Service: On a VERY positive side, one of the plants was weak and didn't survive. American Meadows replaced it immediately, without question."
"I'm in Brooklyn and have a rat problem, they snapped the vine in half so can't send a photo but it seems to be bouncing back inside in the pot"
"Snow Queen Clematis Vine arrived in a nice pot (securely packaged and hardy). The day after I planted it produced a beautiful white flower. This vine wants to grow! Very happy with the purchase. I can't wait to see next year's blooms."
"This is a wonderful clematis that surprised me by setting buds and flowering the first season in the ground. Did not grow as much as I expected this year, but it was not a very good growing year over all."
"Snow Queen didn't grow or flower much in the first year, but hopefully she will be more dramatic this year. The half dozen flowers she did produce were far from white - they were pink. If you really want a white clematis snow queen does not live up to her name."
"Planted by my mailbox & it looks great. Bloomed the first year. Growing quickly the second year. I love clematis & have every color planted around my large fenced yard."
