'Bonfire' Euphorbia is likely to ignite a lifelong interest in this fabulous plant family! Forming a mound of orange, purple, and red foliage in the spring and summer that deepens to red in the fall, 'Bonfire' has one more trick up its sleeve: bright yellow bracts opening like flowers on the stem tips in late spring. Plant to add texture and structure to complement flowers and grasses in drier soils or sloped locations like rock gardens. (Euphorbia polychroma)
'Bonfire'
Euphorbia gives gardeners an edge in remembering its Latin name, Euphorbia
polychroma, as this perennial fills the garden with dynamic color. The flowers
are actually flowering bracts, and consequently, last much longer than petals
in the spring garden. The foliage provides a strong presence long after the
bracts have faded. Grow in sharply draining soil to guard against winter
moisture, or position these fascinating plants on a slight slope in a sunny
location to help with drainage. In the spring, resist the temptation to cut
back the older stems, as they will re-foliate and provide a show for the spring
garden. Absolutely stunning paired with spring-blooming Alliums. Use gloves
when pruning, as milky sap can be a skin irritant.

The base of the stem(s) should be just at the soil surface after watering in
"I was really disappointed; the plant was very poorly packaged, with dirt scattered everywhere when it arrived. There were only a few bent stems to begin with and they were dried out. The plant was not healthy and certainly not robust. I have been struggling to nurse it back from the dead. It now has a stem about two inches tall, with a few leaves along one side of the stem and a few at the top. I will not buy plants from American Meadows again. I'll wait and see if my dahlia tubers sprout."

Purchase was ok
"1 of the 3 plants I ordered arrived in way less than desirable condition. The other 2 were borderline ok. I planted everything anyways, hoping roots were still ok. Clearly they were not on one of the plants, as only 2 of the 3 bare root plants took off. They still haven't really taken off since being put in the garden. These were on a flash sale, but in hindsight, it was just so that inventory in less than desirable condition could be pushed out the door."

I will buy this product again
"These look great. They are just settling in but they look healthy. We'll see how they fill out with time."
