Description
Everybody loves Hollyhocks--tall beauties that create tremendous color wherever they grow. They quickly create spires of flowers up to 5 or 6 feet. Hollyhocks are great for the back of the border, and also as a blooming screen for unsightly views or other things you'd like to hide with beautiful flowers all summer long.
These old-fashioned plants are famous for being biennial which means they bloom their second year from seed.

Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.

"It's only been a few weeks, but six out of eight plants are starting to come up. Impossible to tell at this early stage what the flowers will look like. I'm in zone 7a and my yard has a heavy clay soil. The hollyhocks were planted to make a border along a fence and are in part sun. I did mix in a little of a plant starter product into the soil to encourage growth. Looking forward to flowers next summer!"
LOVE THEM!
"This is the third year. First year, only some green leaves (had to shield, our deer love them), second year some nice blooms and this year, WOW! You never see Hollyhocks in this part of Texas (elevation 500') but they grow just like AM said. By the time it got REALLY HOT this y ear, July lst or so, they were pretty well gone. I threw in some pix of my sunflowers too, also from AM."

Not all Bloom the First Year
"All eight plants grew leaves, but only one plant sent up a flower stalk. Upon researching, I found out that Hollyhocks are biennials, producing only leaves the first year and flowers the second year. It would have been nice if this was noted in the description. The plant that bloomed sent up a stalk almost five feet tall with numerous beautiful blooms along the stalk. ."

Patience is required
"This past severe winter killed most of last years hard work. These 15 plants are a 'restart'. In a month they are now 4 inches tall and all 15 are thriving, but it will be next year before they will blossom into flowers; therefore, patience is required."

"I bought 16 bare-root plants to hide my ugly fence in April. Hollyhocks take 2 years to mature to blossom. I was very surprised to see those tall stalks filled with beautiful flowers by the end of June. Hopefully by next June they will completely cover the fence. If not, I will order 16 more. I am very pleased. Thank you."

"I purchased these for my mother for her birthday and was very excited; however, when she received them, 2 were dead and one was on the way to a fast death. The others that survived did well and she was surprised that I remembered they were her fav flowers."
The foilage is huge!
"I got these last year so they havent bloomed yet! I can wait to see the blooms this summer! The foilage on these plants are huge! Bigger than my hand! So they do need a good amount of growing space. Everything I bought from american meadows grew! I did not have one dud! Instructions are easy to follow!"
