'Red Beauty' Japanese Painted Fern is a graceful color-maker in the shade garden, with silver-tinged green fronds that sport deep-burgundy stems and veins. Making its home in moist, shady areas, 'Red Beauty' will grow vigourously if the plants are kept well watered, but is not an agressive spreader. Carries a slightly spicy fragrance. (Athyrium niponicum)

Small but mighty….

"We have irrigation, so it's easy to maintain the moisture level these ferns require. Small but lovely plants."

Waiting for something to happen

"I bought this plant to add to my shade garden. I planted it last year. This year it did come up, but it's barely more than a baby, two to three inches tall and no noticeable spread. Hopefully it will grow more by next year."

Died

"Came up, looked healthy but just died. Hope it comes back next year"

Lovely sturdy ferns

"Love these ferns! Ordered one in the early spring that arrived, well, kinda shabby. But, knowing that ferns can regenerate from a small amount of root, I patiently waited and watched and gave it a drink of transplanter and guess what. Fronds are appearing. It lives! Ordered three more that arrived in very robust condition. Yea."

I would buy this product.

"I would use this product in my fern garden."

Lovely contrast

"I find nothing negative in this product. Rather, it adds a delightful contrast in my shade garden which was the reason I purchased it. I am not disappointed"

Growing slowly but well in the shade

"These ferns came in the spring quite small. I wasn't sure they'd make it. But they've grown slowly over the past few months and seem to be holding out ok. They're in a shady spot, which is why the growth is very slow, I think."

What Beauties These Ferns Are!!

"Beautiful!! These little guys came to me last May being very small ferns. I planted them and in no time, they took off. By the end of fall last year, they were a decent size. I live in KY and the ferns just popped up this week. Wow!! They are gorgeous and the starting size is the size where they were in the fall which means they will grow their lovely fronds to an adult size this year!! These ferns are beautiful in my yard. They are hearty. I planted them in shady spots but they do get some sun. When it was really dry, I would water. These ferns were easy to care for. I can not say enough positive things about these ferns!! They are strong, hearty and beautiful!!! Thank you American Meadows!!!"

I would order this plant again

"Received three of these as small plants. They were slow to take off but since are starting to grow well. Interesting frawn texture, color and stem color. Good addition to a woodland shade garden."
