How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
You see Joe Pye Weed over most of the east in roadside ditches, since it seeks sunny wet spots. It usually blooms with the goldenrods. There are now several hybrids offered for perennial gardens, but most wild gardeners think the wild version is best.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"Just received 2-3 weeks ago. It’s been cold here but it’s potted up and growing."
"I have not had the pleasure of experiencing this plant. Last year when I planted it, something (rabbits or chipmunks) kept chewing it off to the ground. This year when it came up it was minimal, weak, spindly and slow growing. I even wonder if it's the plant I ordered because the leaves and plant look so different than the picture! I wouldn't order it again."
"I ordered and planted three of these earlier this year. They took awhile to get going, but are now vigorous plants in my perennial garden and full of blooms. VERY happy with these dwarf Joe Pye Weed. Mine are about 2' tall and just perfect. They don't fall over when it rains hard either!"
"It was very small and dead looking when it arrived but I thought it might come back. Unfortunately, it did not along with most of my order from American Meadows."
"I too, received this plant as a pot of "healthy dormant roots" but it never grew. I will say that I received a very large order of plants and all but 3 are thriving. It seems that the "larger" plants are the ones that did not survive (dwarf baby joe pye weed, Ironweed and Common Boneset all died). The plants were all packaged very well, but those 3 plants did not look good from the start. I do want a dwarf baby pye weed and ironweed for a butterfly garden so I think I will have to get elsewhere this spring, but I do plan to order other plants from American Meadows this year!"
"All made it. About to bloom!"
"Nothing is great about this product, I know Joe Pyle Weed comes up later, but I have yet to see any growth"
"Anxious to see what they do for me. Still quite small. ."
"I'm in Zone 4 Montana. I received a pot with soil in it with "Healthy Dormant" plant roots (that's what the sticker on the side said). I put it outside in the sun and made sure it got watered regularly, so the soil didnt dry out, but the plant never grew. I expected to receive a plant that had some above ground vegetation on it. I waited so long to get this plant, but it never grew. I honestly think it was dead on arrival. I would buy from American Meadows again, but as for this Baby Joe Pye Weed. . . I will have to buy it somewhere else. I've gotten nice plants from these guys in the past, so hopefully this was just a one off thing."
"Planted right before the winter in a pot, but then I had to leave the country and left that plant in a pot without any protection over the winter with temperatures -4F (-20C). I lost some phloxes and foxgloves this way and thought that I lost this guy too, but to my surprise it came up in the spring and now is a pretty healthy plant that is about to bloom. Cons- sadly stems are not sturdy enough and needs stake support."
