The Ostrich Fern is a grand, native plant from the Eastern American woodlands. Unfurling in a fiddlehead shape, it gets its name from the open plumes that resemble ostrich feathers. Like most ferns, this one prefers a cool, moist spot and will spread and thrive in any wet, shady area of the garden. A notably graceful plant. (Matteuccia struthiopteris).

"Beautiful plants"

a

"Seems very happy in the shade, under the giant catalpa tree (which casts shade into my garden). Planted it last fall and it's looking good now as the summer is progressing."

Survivors they are!

"using these plants to provide variety to the undergrowth in area that was largely English Ivy I had bought roots from another source earlier with several not surviving. After my repotting the American Meadows order due I poor packaging I let them recover in the greenhouse all 12 begin to flourish in growth then I noticed they seemed to yellow a bit so I planted them to get them out of the heat into the shade."

With patience, great hopes

"I'm working on creating a mass planting of the ostrich ferns, and my expectations are high. It was a great help to have the company replace the plants that arrived in terminal condition."

Biggs (3/5)

great little guy

"planted in a shady bed along a building under a tree, my "weird" bed that is damp. has survived one month no irrigation, including an early-spring heat wave. no new growth on it that i see, hopefully it settles in"

Robin (4/5)

I would buy this again and again

"I love ostrich ferns. They are great for the woods next to my house. They already are reproducing and filling the area. It will take a few years, but I am looking forward to having them take over under the trees."

Julie (5/5)

VERY happy about the ostrich fern - it is growing.

"I see these plants in Logan, UT - they are beautiful. It is growing slowly, in a shady spot - it is VERY hot here right now. I enjoy it. Hopefully it will continue to grow through the summer & fall."

Suzie (5/5)

Love this fern

"I mixed these ferns with my others including the red japanese fern. I sent previous pix, just wanted to add more."

Casino J. (5/5)

Very hardy fern second year thought bigger

"Second year I was hoping it was going to be taller."

Casino J. (4/5)

Slow growing

"Arrived very small, taking 3 years to get to 20" tall. . . far cry to 36" and a lifetime away from 60""
