‘Ruby Carpet’ Wild Blueberry is a low-growing native perennial and beautifully textural groundcover. Growing only 6 inches tall, it has deep olive-green foliage that turns ruby red in fall. These blueberry shrub wills produce flowers, followed by delicious tiny blue-black berries. They provide habitat for pollinators and wildlife, and maybe pancake ingredients for you! Bred from low-bush blueberries from Maine, ‘Ruby Carpet’ is very productive with tasty berries. (Vaccinium angustifolium ‘Ruby Carpet’)

"Product arrived in excellent condition. Smaller than I expected but will see how much it grows and expands. Planted on north east side of 4 in 1 apple tree near other blueberries."

"All of the plants I purchased died immediately"

Good Fall Color

"I can vouch for the fall color on this. Nice vibrant shades of red, it would be a great accent next to a frosty blue-green juniper or evergreen shrub."

Would like to try again

"The plants came promptly after they were shipped. Instructions were clear and plants were healthy. We did unfortunately lose nearly all of them. We aren't sure if it was just too brutally cold this winter or if something else but we are sad that we did lose them. There is one clinging to life but in poor shape. We would try again."

Patience is a virtue

"I was lucky enough to be a staff recipient of this plant at the end of the season. In our company's effort to keep all of our plants that we were unable to sell at the end of the season out of the waste stream, staff members are encouraged to give some of our products a go. Not one to say no to a free plant, I was excited to try this new option for us, especially since I didn't order one for myself earlier in the season. I planted the Ruby Carpet around the end of June. The plant has been healthy and even sent out some new leaf shoots since planting. While it hasn't grown substantially in size since planting, I didn't necessarily expect it to, and "alive" works for me at this point. Knowing that most plants sleep in their first season (work on root development), creep in the second season (you will see a slight increase in top foliage), and leap in the third season (when the plant will stun you), I am looking forward to seeing what happens next spring. I will say, that while not a ton of top growth on it, the Ruby Carpet is growing "as advertised" and is starting to have its foliage turn red as we enter our cooler months and shorter days. It is awesome to see, and lets me know while small in stature, this plant is thriving."
